Mars Austria: 30 years in Bruck
Pride and joy at Mars Austria: 30 years ago, in the autumn of 1985, the Mars petfood factory in Bruck an der Leitha went on stream. Initially designed as a small plant for the domestic Austrian market, it exports its products to 70 countries worldwide today.
The product portfolio consists of wet petfood for cats and dogs, sold in supermarkets, drugstores and pet shops. In addition to that the factory makes dietary products used in the therapy of sick pets. This special product which is in strong demand the world over is mainly sold through veterinary surgeries.
In the years 2012-2014 a comprehensive expansion project was undertaken. For a total of € 53 million a new factory hall and two new production lines for petfood in pouches were built, all state-of-the-art in terms of production and environmental technology. The factory now has an annual capacity of 85,000 tons, and the export quota is 95 %.
The 30eth anniversary was celebrated with a gala event for the associates and their families, pensioners and partners from business, the authorities and politics. In his ceremonial address the mayor of Bruck, Richard Hemmer, emphasised the role of Mars Austria as a major employer for the town and for the whole region. He was especially pleased with the recent large investment which “enables Bruck to plan for a further long-term co-operation”.
Plant manager Johan van Zaanen welcomed all his predecessors: Sepp Huber, Gerd Bendix, Sigrid Lenk-Kubelka and Alfred Hiermann. All evening artistic performances, live acts and lots of music put everybody in a good mood.
