The Mars Family Business
From kitchen candy to global player.
From its humble beginnings in the Tacoma, Washington kitchen of Frank Mars, Mars, Incorporated has grown into a company of global scope with six business segments including Chocolate, Petcare, Wrigley Gum and Confections, Food, Drinks and Symbioscience, generating annual revenues of $28 billion. As a family-owned company for nearly a century, we are guided by our Five Principles: Quality, Responsibility, Mutuality, Efficiency and Freedom. We continually strive to put our Principles in Action in everything we do: making a difference to people and the planet through performance.
Our Mars Canada Journey
Almost 70 years ago, in the late 1940's the Mars vision came to Canada. Our start here was modest but the dream was anything but. Fuelled by a vision of product innovation and strong brands, the Mars Canadian dream took shape with the investment in the Newmarket and Bolton factories in the late 1980's. We moved quickly from a new emerging unit to a growth engine and are extremely proud to be entirely family-owned.
Why is this so important? It means that we're completely in charge of driving our success and shaping our future. This gives our associates the freedom to excel by being passionate, creative, innovative and daring. In short, allowing associates to take chances. We have always been a decentralized organization with a very small corporate centre. We value local consumer knowledge and believe our associates in the markets are best equipped to make the decisions to meet business needs and goals. This gives associates strong accountability and leadership opportunities throughout the business. Learn More >
