Pedigree® - Walk with dogs.

19 May 2011

Let’s take a walk.
Let’s have some fun.
Let’s make our dogs happy.

544 dog owners and 329 dogs walked for a good cause!
The Prague International Marathon took place during the second weekend in May and the Pedigree® Dog Walk was part of it. A total of 544 people and 329 dogs took part in this second annual 4.5 km non-competitive walk through Stromovka park. Numerous dog lovers with their four-legged friends came together in front of Prague’s Výstaviště exhibition grounds before 4:00 p.m. Both children and adults had the opportunity to receive interesting presents in the form of Pedigree® dog food and Care&Treats while helping abandoned dogs in shelters via their registration for walk.

36 percent of Czechs have helped homeless animals

23 July 2010

Research conducted in May of this year has shown that the Czechs have a lukewarm relationship with the protection of animals and abandoned animals. Approximately 6% of the population in the Czech Republic does not consider a protection of animals to be necessary or important. A lack of knowledge about the shelters in the vicinity of their residence was expressed by 41% of the respondents. The relationship of respondents to stray and abandoned animals is influenced by the gender and by whether they themselves are owners of a dog or cat. Women pay attention to animals in their surroundings more and help those abandoned more often than men. A survey conducted by the research firm STEM/MARK further revealed that 52% of the Czech households have a dog or cat. The survey has shown that they are the ones who pay greater attention to substandard living conditions of animals in the neighborhood, more than the other population.
Human-animal companionship

28 June 2010

On June 1-4, 2010, teams of scientists from Sweden, Germany, USA, Japan and other countries will present the results of their research on human-animal relationships. This year the conference "People & Animals: For Life" will be held in Stockholm and will feature 84 lectures on the companionship between humans and animals with focus on pets and pet care. Every three years, the conference, organized by the IAHAIO (International Association of Human-Animal Interaction Organizations), presents new studies demonstrating the mutual benefit of humans and animals, for example the positive therapeutic impact of animals on the rehabilitation of patients, taking care of the elderly or autistic children.
Dogs and cats at dentist

31 May 2010

Only 30 % of the Czech population with dogs cleans their dogs’ teeth. This was found by a team of veterinarians and veterinary medics in the Pedigree mobile advisory centre. The canine dental clinic has revealed the ignorance of dog owners and has offered their household pets a free veterinary dental inspection. The most common stomatological diagnosis among dogs was dental plaque, tartar and sporadically it was gingivitis or periodontitis, which is an inflammatory disease of the tissue surrounding the teeth. This problem was most often detected with small breeds. This year the yellow caravan with the Pedigree advisory centre will also repeat this event during its campaign “The Month of Healthy Teeth”.
