Packaging : the rule of the 3 "R"
We use the strategic principles of "reduce, recycle and rethink".
These 3 principles inspires all actions and commitments of Mars Inc to minimise its environmental impact in terms of packaging :
- Before 2015, we will minimise packaging content and material weights by 10% when compared to our packaging in 2007.
- To encourage recycling, collection and reprocessing infrastructure, we will design our packaging to be 100% recyclable or recoverable by 2015, where infrastructure exists.
- As the results of our packaging reduction and recycling become visible we will be working towards the next level of packaging sustainability. By working with materials suppliers and our retail customers we intend to create new products formats and supply chain innovations. This will alllow primary, secondary and tertiary packaging materials to be further reduced or eliminated.
