Our view on using artificial colors

Mars has committed to removing artificial colors from all of our human food products. As we make these changes we are dedicated to delivering the same great tasting products you love, and we will provide absolute transparency about our ingredients in our labeling.

We already offer a range of products that are free of artificial colors around the world. It’s part of our ongoing commitment to meet evolving consumer preferences while taking advantage of new technologies and scientific information. As an example, in the U.S., the FDA has approved Mars’ petition to use Spirulina Extract as a naturally sourced color additive in confectionery and chewing gum

All of the ingredients we use in our products comply with our own strict internal quality and safety requirements, as well as all applicable laws and regulations. These ingredients always meet or exceed the requirements established by food safety regulators globally including the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).

Replacing artificial colors across all our products is a complex task. We expect it will take about five years to develop the full range of alternatives that guarantee the integrity and great taste of the products you know and love, and to go through the process of obtaining regulatory approval for all new ingredients in development.

For over 100 years Mars has been proud to bring consumers the products they love, while always delivering exceptional quality and taste. As we look ahead to the next 100 years, we will continue to deliver this standard, putting our consumers first and offering even more choices to meet evolving needs and preferences.
