The article coincides with the publication of the second Principles in Action Summary, which explores Mars' commitments to tackling the effects of climate change and better understanding the impacts of the business on the environment.

"It's great to see recognition for challenging targets we are striving to achieve and that is testament to the commitment and passion of our Associates who make a difference each and every day," commented Christine Greaves, Corporate Affairs Manager, Mars GCC. "Sustainability has become an integral part of our operations because the more we grow, the more we need to focus on reducing our impact on the environment."

Further discussed in the article are the ambitious short term targets Mars has set, as outlined in the Principles in Action summary, including targets to reduce direct fossil-fuel energy use, GHG emissions and also water use by 25% each by 2015 as well as zero waste to landfill.

Each phase of implementation to achieve these targets are outlined in the article featuring in the October issue of H2O, demonstrating how Mars has made such a seemingly distant goal become within reach.
