Finance and Procurement

Finance

It’s Finance, but with major differences

For most companies, Finance is a team of number crunchers poring over spreadsheets and juggling budgets. At Mars, we take a different view of things. We don’t think of Finance as a separate department hidden away in a room crammed with calculators. In fact, our Finance people work so closely with different functions across the business – everyone from Sales and Marketing, to Manufacturing and Research and Development – that you could almost say they were members of those teams.

Prepare for more involvement

Such freedom and interaction means we can offer our Associates in Finance a real breadth and depth of experience. At the same time, we’re enabling them to do what they do best – use their expertise to successfully manage the massive financial responsibilities that come with a business of our size and scope. Finance plays such a proactive role in helping to guide strategic development, there’s always plenty of opportunity to influence our tactics, direction and future profitability.

Balancing the books won’t be enough

Accordingly, we don’t simply look for those with a good head for maths. Our Finance people are just as comfortable with people as they are numbers. And to join their team, you’ll need to combine strong relationship-building skills with sound judgment, the courage to act on your beliefs and the ability to influence others and inspire them to act with you. Because Finance at Mars is about far more than just making sure the figures add up and our assets are properly protected.

Procurement

Procurement that’s more proactive

When did you last purchase a car? How did you approach the buying process? Did you head down to your local dealer, select the model and pay the asking price? Or did you negotiate some money off? Maybe you thought about what you really wanted in a car, and were flexible to consider different makes or models? Perhaps you researched the market place, produced a short-list of potential supply options, set yourself a target price and then planned how you would achieve it? If so, you could be just the person to enjoy negotiating great deals as part of our Procurement team.

Take ownership

As with many businesses, understanding the consumer's perspective, material functionality and the supply chain for the materials we buy is vital to our ongoing success. But that’s where most of the similarities between us and our competitors come to an end. The fact is, our Procurement Associates enjoy a huge amount of freedom and responsibility. This allows them to develop their buying strategies, make sustainable purchasing decisions, make choices that help us become even more cost-effective and use their initiative to make a visible impact on our business.

It’s not just about purchasing power

Like every other part of Mars, it’s not just technical ability we look for in our Procurement Associates. To succeed here, you’ll need to be equally happy working with numbers and information as you are people. And although you’ll find yourself benefiting from lots of autonomy, we have a strict ethics policy in place, and you must be prepared to live by these values. That aside you’ll find exactly the kind of support to grow your career how you want.
