MARS BELGIUM VOTED GREAT PLACE TO WORK TENTH YEAR IN A ROW!

14/03/2018

Mars Belgium has been voted "Great Place To Work®" for the tenth year in a row by its employees and may therefore call itself one of the "Best Employers of Belgium" in the category of less than 500 employees. Mars Belgium is the only company in the Top 20 with a production unit: the Uncle Ben's® plant in Olen. No less than 89% of Mars Belgium employees think the multinational family company is "a very good organization to work for". As icing on the cake, Mars Belgium was also nominated for the Special Award of Sustainable Employability / Inclusion this year.

Every year, the "Vlerick Great Place To Work® Institute" creates a ranking of the twenty best companies to work for in Belgium, based on employee and HR surveys. The opinion of the employees themselves weighs most heavily in the final score (two-thirds of the points). This year, the large-scale survey shows that 89% of employees find Mars Belgium an excellent organization to work for.

"Getting this recognition for the tenth year in a row makes me extremely proud,” says General Manager Pierre Camé. “This sustainable commitment to the welfare of our employees is the result of a conscious choice and making the right decisions, based on our unique value-driven Mars culture.”

Don’t say "employee", but proud "Associate" who looks forward to coming to work

At Mars, employees don’t refer to themselves as employees, but as "Associate", and that is strongly linked to the fact that Mars values equality, inclusiveness and teamwork. As one of them puts it: "It's not who you work for, but who you work with." This involvement fosters pride: 91% of the employees are proud to tell others that they work at Mars and 88% think their job is not just a job, but has meaning and importance. As a result, 81% of employees indicate that they looking forward to coming to work.

Nomination for Special Award: "Inclusion". Top priority.

This year, Mars Belgium also won an extra nomination, for "Inclusion". The Vlerick survey shows that employees particularly appreciate that they are treated as a full member of the organization (91%). Regardless of their ethnic origin, gender, orientation beliefs (98%). As a newcomer you immediately feel welcome. The management also conducts a fair and ethically responsible policy (91%). And employees are given a lot of responsibility (94%).

One in two Managers and four in 10 executives at Mars Belgium is female.

Pierre Camé, General Manager: "Inclusiveness is a top priority in Mars. Every employee belongs. We value and drive diversity: it provides enrichment and depth. A balanced and successful team consists of people with diverse profiles, backgrounds and thinking patterns. Our employees and teams must be as varied as our brands and products."

Nomination for Special Award "Sustainable Employability". Sustainable working: happy @ work.

This year, Mars Belgium also won an extra nomination, for Sustainable Employability. The Vlerick survey shows that employees greatly value flexible working hours, working from home, being able to take leave when they want or when necessary. This encourages employees to maintain a balance between work and private life. A lot of attention is also paid to their physical and mental well-being: modern offices, good facilities, family atmosphere: pets (dogs) have been welcome for more than 10 years! There are also fitness and yoga classes during office hours, experts who give coaching sessions on stress management ... The management also scores highly for paying attention to the individual as a unique person and as a person who can grow and develop and not only as an employee.

Family culture and values.

Mars, Inc. has been owned by the Mars family for more than 100 years. The company prides itself on a strong, unique and meaningful corporate culture. "Mars, Inc. is definitely an atypical multinational. With 100,000 'Associates' (employees) worldwide, it’s still a family business. Crucial in our corporate culture are "The Five Principles": Quality, Responsibility, Mutuality, Efficiency and Freedom, and we apply them to everything we do and our daily decisions,” says Markus Gogg, Plant Director of Mars Food Olen.
