The Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings & Mars

Mars has been in business since 1911 — and we want to be thriving another hundred years from now.  We believe scientific research and big-impact innovation will help us achieve this, as well as tackle some of the world’s most pressing food, agricultural and health challenges. As a global food business, this is of a very high priority for Mars and we want to take a scientific approach to the problems that we face. One of the ways we do this is through uncommon collaboration. We want to work with the best and brightest in the world across disciplines to solve the problems we encounter as a business and in society – because we know we can’t do it on our own.

One way we pursue our research and big-impact innovation is through our partnership with the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings. Each year, the meetings bring together Nobel Laureates with 400 to 500 of the world’s best scientific and economic researchers, under the mantra of ‘Educate, Inspire, Connect.’ The meetings focus on the Nobel disciplines of Physiology/Medicine, Chemistry, Physics and Economics. Since the meetings began in 1951, they’ve brought together more than 30,000 researchers to discuss the critical scientific issues of our time. We’ve collaborated with the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings since 2007 and have renewed our partnership with them for another ten years, until 2027.

What happens at the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings?

The Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings consist of lectures, discussions, master classes, and panel discussions to exchange knowledge between and among the best researchers and economists and Nobel laureates. Mars has convened panel discussions and lectures with Laureates, young researchers and our own experts on a range of topics: from the gut microbiome – the trillions of microorganisms that live in our guts – to how the global food system can sustainably provide for an extra 2 billion people by 2050.
