RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME - Careers | Mars, Incorporated

R&D shapes the future, and on this programme we will help you shape your own. You’ll be given the opportunity to explore the varied aspects of R&D and support the development of your science skills where creativity and personal responsibility is celebrated. You’ll get to work on world-famous brands and have the chance to see the results of your technical expertise, entrepreneurial spirit and fantastic communication skills on the shelves. With our support, you can expect to progress rapidly. In a few years, you could be anything from a senior scientist or process technologist through to a technical brand manager, process technology manager or process technology manager.

What will I be doing?
The programme runs for two years and during this time you’ll complete three placements. This will give you exposure across key dimensions of a dynamic R&D organisation within a Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) global leader. You’ll have the opportunity to experience our Chocolate and Petcare business units working typically on new concepts, ground breaking science & technologies and manufacturing solutions.

What support can I expect?
In exchange for your drive and enthusiasm, we offer you the chance to explore all aspects of R&D and support development of your science skills in a commercial business environment that rewards creativity and personal responsibility. Whatever you are doing, you will be working alongside creative and passionate people from all areas of the business. You might also find yourself working with agencies and university research teams to get the most out of your projects. You’ll get additional support internally too. Firstly from a senior mentor who can help guide and steer your development, and also from a buddy – a graduate who’s ‘been there and done that’ before.

Where will I be working?
You will either start in Leeds or Slough, then spend your second rotation at the other before returning to your home site for your final placement.

What is the starting salary?
The starting salary is £30,000 plus a £2,000 joining bonus.

Pay increases and bonuses?
Individual performance-related pay increases are made at the end of each placement. A company performance bonus is received annually as a one-off payment.
