How to apply

Once you have decided which programme you want to apply to click on the “Apply Here” button on that programmes page.

1. You will now be asked to agree to a privacy agreement, please make sure you select English (United Kingdom) from the language box before hitting “I Accept”.

2. Log in. If you haven’t created a profile previously please enter a username and password then click “New User” and follow the instructions on screen.

3. IMPORTANT – Bookmark the next page. This will allow you to come back to your application without entering the Mars website.

4. STEP 1 of 5. Uploading your CV. This should be in pdf, word or, rich text format and be a maximum of 1000kb. The system will search your CV for data that it believes are relevant to you application (email address, home address, etc). If the system shows and error when uploading don’t worry, you will have another opportunity to upload again at the end of the process.

5. STEP 2 of 5. Complete your profile. This is the detail we will use when contacting you regarding your application. IMPORTANT -You will also find a section regarding education – for these programmes, please only enter the University name and degree sat, leave the average grade sections blank – if any details are entered please use the “Remove Education” option to clear the field. The system may need to refresh after some of the fields are updated so please take you time when completing the form.

6. STEP 3 of 5. Attaching files. You can now attach a covering letting if you choose or attach your CV if it didn’t work in Step 1.

7. STEP 4 of 5. Questionnaire.

Answer all the questions. If you cannot do so for a good reason, such as the question is not applicable, please write a note so that we know you haven't just forgotten to enter the information.

Read the question. A fairly obvious one, but important none the less. Basically, try to focus on answering the specific question we’ve asked. In the past, people have got a bit too carried away and tried to cover too many areas with their answer - which makes it harder for us to find the information we’re looking for.

Open questions. You’ll find three open-ended questions on the application form. These are very important, as they offer us our first real insight into you as a person (beyond the stats and figures we already have). Take some time to think about your answers. And try to provide enough substance so that the person reading your application can understand the point (s) you’re trying to get across. Remember, at this stage this is the only piece of information they will have about you.

Stand out for the right reasons. We know you want to stand out from the rest of the applicants. But it’s important not to try too hard. You don’t have to be wacky to catch our eye. Just be open and honest about what you’ve achieved, and make sure you support your thoughts with clear, rational arguments.

Try to keep your examples succinct and really try and focus on putting across what you have learnt as a result of the experience or situation. Often the most simple answers are the best ones!

8. STEP 5 of 5. Summary. Take a few moments to read through the summary. You can make any changes now by using the “Edit” buttons (blue). Once you are ready to submit you application hit “Submit”. If you’d like to come back to your application, you can save it as a draft and return later.

What happens next?

If your application form really stands out, you’ll be invited to sit two online aptitude tests covering verbal and numerical reasoning.

Pass this stage and we’ll ask you to attend a first round interview. This takes about half a day – consisting of a face-to-face interview with Mars managers and either an analytical (General Management and European Finance) or technical exercise (Engineering and Research and Development) to assess your problem-solving and analysis skills. But it won’t just be us asking the questions. You’ll have the chance to quiz us too; about the company, how we work, the benefits we offer etc. Plus you’ll be able to meet current associates from the programme you’re applying to. We’ll let you know if you have made it through to the next stage within two days of your interview.

If you shine at your interview, you will be invited to an assessment centre. Taking place over two days, these events are designed to help us both decide if we're right for each other. The process is as much about you assessing us as it is about us assessing you. On day one, there's an informal dinner with your assessment team and current associates in the evening, and then the assessment itself takes place on day two. This will involve both group and individual exercises, and from them we’ll gather the evidence we need to make that all-important offer. We’ll then let you know our decision, either way, within two days of your assessment.
