GHG Baseline Restatement Policy
As our business and climate science evolve, we regularly update how we track our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
Each year, a baseline restatement is performed, which results in adjustments to historical numbers for a variety of indicators such as GHG, land, water, packaging. This process is a positive reflection of our commitment to continually improve our data accuracy and ensuring that, for example, acquisitions are promptly integrated into our results. By regularly updating and refining our historical data, we strive to provide the most accurate and comprehensive view of our performance. Sometimes updates result in an increased footprint or a more challenging path to our reduction targets.
Our GHG Baseline Restatement Policy(Opens a new window) explains when and how we update our 2015 baseline to include new data or changes in how we measure emissions (Scopes 1, 2, and 3). This policy applies to Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3 GHG emissions currently quantified by Mars and included in our emissions accounting.
Our approach to restatement ensures consistency, aligns with global standards (e.g. GHG Protocol and Science-Based Targets initiative), and provides stakeholders with insights into our real performance. It also ensures transparency with regard to the impact that e.g. acquisitions have on our baseline or how the science and GHG accounting changes over time. While ensuring that restatement captures all emissions is a challenging ambition to pursue, our commitment to delivering absolute GHG reductions across our full value chain requires nothing less.
