Mars Climate School: Empowering our Associates to help us achieve a Net Zero Future
At Mars, we believe the world we want tomorrow starts with how we do business today. That’s why we’ve launched Mars Climate School - a pioneering e-learning program designed to give Associates the knowledge and tools to take meaningful climate action at work, at home, and in their communities.
A differentiator in climate leadership
“Our Climate School is more than just training; it’s part of a movement to empower our people to lead the way toward a sustainable future. Sharing this story publicly underscores our dedication to transparency, innovation, and collective action in addressing climate change.” - Alastair Child, Chief Sustainability Officer
“At Mars, building a sustainable future is a journey that involves everyone. That’s why I’m so proud of Mars Climate School. For our Petcare Associates, whether you work in veterinary services, nutrition, or any other part of our business, Climate School gives you the knowledge to make a difference. When Associates understand the ‘why’ and ‘how’ of climate action, we unlock new ideas and drive innovation.” – Alessandro Bussi, Global Supply and Technology Staff Officer
What is Mars Climate School?
Hosted on our global learning platform, Mars University, Climate School is a six-hour program that takes participants on a three-part journey:
- Climate Basics: Understanding the science and impacts of climate change
- Climate for Business: Exploring how climate change affects industries and the solutions available today
- Climate at Mars: Detailing our Net Zero roadmap and how climate action is embedded in our business
To ensure impact where it matters most, Climate School is required for all senior leaders and managers in Research & Development, Supply, Commercial, and Corporate Affairs - critical functions for delivering and communicating our Net Zero ambitions.
Rooted in science and designed for action
We partnered with Project Drawdown, a world leader in climate solutions, to ground our content in rigorous science. Courses combine videos, interactive modules, and practical tools helping participants move from learning to action.
Driving engagement
Thousands of Mars Associates have already engaged with the program, with a target of 80% completion across key groups by the end of 2025. Graduates of Climate School become “Climate Heroes” - champions who embed sustainability in their daily roles and inspire others to do the same.
Why it matters
By upskilling our Associates, we are building a climate-competent workforce, one that understands the scale of the challenge and is equipped to take action, personally and professionally. Climate School is one of several ways that we provide sustainability upskilling opportunities to Associates. In addition to Climate School, we provide other sustainability trainings on topics like sourcing, packaging, logistics and operations.
Join us on the journey
While Mars Climate School is designed for our Associates, the mission behind is broader. The science, insights, and actions we share can inspire change well beyond our business.
