Mars Food & Nutrition Criteria

For the Mars Food & Nutrition segment, the Mars Food & Nutrition Criteria reflect our commitment to deliver better nutrition through tasty, accessible and healthy food. The Criteria provide the framework for how we develop and improve our products, ensuring they align with globally recognized dietary guidelines while meeting people’s needs for taste, quality and convenience.

Our approach to better nutrition

We believe everyone deserves access to tasty, nutritious food. Our Mars Food & Nutrition Criteria guide how we design and improve our products, helping us include more whole foods and nutrients, while limiting added sugars, sodium and saturated fats.

Why nutritious food matters

Food fuels our bodies, giving us the nutrients we need, and it also brings enjoyment, comfort and connection. It brings us together as families, friends and communities, and helps us explore different cultures. At the same time, we believe we can all eat better.

Today, billions of people around the world lack reliable access to safe and nutritious food. In fact, globally, about four in ten people don’t have consistent access to diets that meet their nutritional needs (FAO, IFAD, UNICEF, WFP & WHO, 2025). That simply isn’t good enough. The reasons for this are as numerous as they are complex. Busy lives, gaps in knowledge and limited access can all get in the way of eating well. But by taking action today, we can help shape a better tomorrow.

Ambitious goals, science-based standards

With our expertise and passion, we’re uniquely positioned to drive meaningful change – and help bring the benefits of tasty, accessible and healthy food to more people around the world. That’s why we created the Mars Food & Nutrition Criteria – our science-based standards for designing and improving our products. Grounded in globally recognized dietary recommendations, our Criteria guide how we innovate and reformulate, helping us include more whole foods, like vegetables, fruits, legumes and whole grains, while limiting added sugars, sodium and saturated fats.
