Mars Petcare & GSA Partner To Make Pets A Part Of The Conversation For Older Adults
Studying the Impact of Animals on Older Adults
The benefits to humans from pet interaction have been well documented, from reducing stress to keeping us active to providing safety. But Mars Petcare has taken this work a step further and looked specifically at the impact of animals on older adults. Could a pet help navigate the numerous life changes facing older adults, including loss of loved ones, retirement, illness and more?
At the Waltham Center for Pet Nutrition, we are committed to making A Better World for Pets™. When it comes to older adults, we've found pets can alleviate feelings of loneliness, provide daily structure and keep owners more active. Knowing this, we've started connecting older adults with local dogs in the UK. Additionally, to help get the word out to this community, we've partnered with the Gerontological Society of America to create a booklet detailing the benefits and risks of pet ownership for older adults. Plus, there's also a section on animal-assisted interventions, for those who aren't in a position to own their own pet.
This is just one way that our passionate, animal-loving Mars Petcare Associates believe in the power of pets, and work diligently to make the world a better place for them. Not only do pets make life better for older adults, but these new owners make life better for their pet, joining a growing global family of pet lovers committed to giving their four-legged friends the best possible health, food and services available.
