We’ve seen the “who saved who” bumper stickers. Now you really can be of service to animals in shelters.
According to a recent survey from Adopt a Pet(Opens a new window), 9 in 10 animal shelters and rescue organizations in the U.S. reported that resource constraints and overpopulation have remained consistent or worsened since the first half of 2022.
It’s why the Mars Service Humans Needed program is stepping up to support shelters and pets in need, enlisting the help of more than 60,000 Associates (what we call our employees) and pet advocates to volunteer – whether it be volunteering at a local animal shelter, fostering and adopting or spreading the word about adoptable pets across social media, these service humans are ready to work.
Shelters in North America are expected to have the worst rates of overpopulation and resource constraints in at least three years, with more than 250,000 dogs and cats in U.S. shelters and 80,000 across Canada.
"Shelter teams work tirelessly to help pets in need. We are thrilled that, by uniting Associates across Mars in a timely volunteer program, we can offer relief when it's needed most,” said Silja Schiller-Moumtzidis, Global Director of Shelters and Pet Adoptions, Mars Petcare.
Mars Petcare also expanded its 14th annual BETTER CITIES FOR PETS™(Opens a new window) Adoption Weekend this year, making it our biggest adoption event yet. Mars Petcare, PEDIGREE Foundation, VCA Charities and Camp Bow Wow covered adoption fees for dogs and cats up to $110,000 in six cities across the U.S.
By giving back to adoptable pets and animal shelters who need our help, we can ensure A Better World for Pets, one animal at a time.
